BOW-BACKED WINDSOR CHAIR 1765-1780

We found this beautiful bow-back Windsor in Connecticut a few years ago and it has been in our home for the past few years. It came from a curator (speciality in chairs)  and collector. The design with the bold turned legs is characteristic of Rhode Island craftsmanship.
Note the serpentine arms which are mortised through the incised bow and terminate in scroll shaped handholds. The chair has seven spindles (desirable),  vase and ring arm supports, four vase and ring turned legs reinforced by H-pattern turned stretchers. The seat is shield shape, concave,  peaking in front and extremely comfortable (saddle seat). A wonderful chair in outstanding condition. A similar chair can be found in ANTIQUE COUNTRY FURNITURE by George C. Neumann p.115.(AOKT)
Dimensions: Seat Height 18 3/4", Overall Height 38"
List Price: $900

*SACK-BACK WINDSOR CHAIR: ca:1780 - 1790

Over its two hundred plus year life, the chair has been repainted and it has no repairs. (BSOTK)

CONNECTICUT VASE-BACK SIDE CHAIR 1780-1795

When we purchased this chair, we were told it was a Milford, CT. chair. Upon research, we found a similar chair in AMERICAN WINDSOR CHAIRS by Nancy Goyne Evans (p.323, Fig.6-161). Ms. Evans says a lot about the chair which is interesting.
However, she does confirm that the chair is from  Connecticut and from the Milford/Bristol area. It is a beautiful chair with the vase splat, curved crest with projecting ears, double stretcher sides, magnificent bulbous front stretcher, button feet and vase, ring, sausage posts. In wonderful condition. (OTDE)
