19th CENTURY SLIDE TOP BOX

We found this box in a home and our initial reaction was that this was a nice candle box. It did have 9 candles inclosed. However, as we continued to look at this well constructed box and noticed that the 3 interior dividers were mortised with unequal channels and there was an indentation in each of the spaces. The box was perhaps  designed to hold something else. However, the box is made with square and T nails, is in wonderful condition and has a nice patina. (TCK)
