SNOWBIRDS 1800s

Cast iron plates of many designs on iron straps are SNOWBIRDS FROM THE 1800s. Anchored by the holes to roof edges under materials such as slate or tile they were meant to retain snow for insulation. Others believed they could prevent any layer of snow from plunging down on the heads of pedestrians. The name occurred because platforms were often shaped like birds or eagles and looking up people mistook them for feathered perchers. Two shapes are available:

Hooked Rug Two Birds

This charming hooked rug shows two birds (love birds?)sitting on a flowering branch. The rug was recently professionally cleaned and mounted.

TABLE /COUNTER TOP DESK- LATE 19th CENTURY

A beautiful table or counter top desk with original surface and hardware. Note the beautiful inlaid crescent moons and the "flower" inside an octagram on the lift top. The desk is nicely made with molding on the base, around the lift top and around the shelf in
the back. The interior of the desk is clean with a little "secret" storage unit in the back. The desk has a stress crack on the lift top. (TLEE)

HAND CARVED SHAVING KIT WITH BRUSH,SOAP and RAZOR

An early 19th century hand carved and dug out shaving box with a brush,soap and razor. The nicely designed handle was also carved from the same piece of wood. The carved lid, with the finger pulls slides easily into the cut out groves of the box. Note the strap on the side of the box which is attached using wooden pegs. (OTLK)

EARLY SPAULDING BROS. CLUB and BALL MAKERS SIGN

This is an early golf sign advertising Spaulding golf clubs and balls. The golf club attached to the sign has a wooden shaft and a very primitive  (hand made?)  head on the club. The club came out of a private home and the owner was told it came from a golf club in Massachusetts. The sign is 45 3/4"L and 13 1/2"W and is in excellent condition. (ADKE)

TOLEWARE TEA CADDIE-19th CENTURY

A 19th century original paint decorated covered tea canister with floral decoration. The paint is in excellent condition considering age and use. As you can see from the photos the floral decoration has retained its color and design. The canister has one small dent. Otherwise, it is in outstanding condition. (TKE)

CRICKET STOOL WITH NEEDLE POINT ca:1900

A very rare three compartment 19th century dovetailed  walnut candle  box in outstanding condition. The left and right compartments are 11 5/8" x 5" with sliding tops that utilize finger pulls.
