TRAMMEL (1740-1800) WITH GREASE LAMP(1700-1730)

Trammels of this size were used for smaller utensils such as grease or pan  lamps, candle holders, cruises and small tea kettles. This is a well used trammel that is in great condition. The adjustable length is 27 1/2" to 40". (LETA)
This pan or grease lamp is extremely well made with the twist on the arm and the one piece construction.  The pan lamp or grease lamp was filled with grease or oil and in order to use this lamp a hempen or vegetable fibre wick was inserted through a central hole in a small disc of cork or wood. The shallow pan was then filled with oil and the wick would float freely in the pan. The pan was then suspended from nail or trammel.

  PIERCED 19th CENTURY TIN LANTERN- CATHEDRAL WINDOW DESIGN

A pierced tin lantern with a unique cathedral window design. The punched holes limited the light but shielded the light from winds and drafts. In addition these “barn” lanterns were in a hay- strewn barn.Note the 3 windows and the tabbed candle holder.(TLLK)

WALNUT CANDLE BOX 19th CENTURY

A beautiful 19th century hand dovetailed walnut candle  box with a raised panel sliding lid. The box has two compartments inside, each measuring 9" x 7 1/2". The candle box is in excellent condition with no loss on the sliding lid or track, no cracks , chips or repairs.(LKST)

VERY RARE ARTICULATING HAND FORGED WALL MOUNTED LIGHTING DEVICE

Elbow jointed extension holders were mounted to work benches, chairs,  walls, posts, mantles and gave the owner maximum flexibility in using the light from a single candle. As a result, the design of such lights was varied. While some used clamps to attach the light, this design used a mantle, pole, wall etc. This design permit height, rotation and extension adjustments. A great example of human creativity. Found in the attic an 18th century home in Ipswich, Mass. (BEEDET)

EARLY 19th CENTURY ADJUSTABLE WI CANDLE STAND WITH HINGED ARM

A unique size wrought iron candle stand  with both vertical and horizontal movement. Note the riveted hinged arm which permits a reasonable horizontal extension as well as  circular movement and the spring adjustment which  provides vertical movement. Note also the four penny feet and the outstanding finial. This is a blacksmith made early 19th century wrought iron candle lamp where the blacksmith exhibited much of his creative  talent. (HLTK)

RARE FOUR LEG RUSH/CANDLE HOLDER ca:1720

One doesn’t see a table rush/candle holder very often. Nor does one see one with this much work. Note the incised lines at the top of the legs, the little design at the top of the curved feet, the tapered stem with the neat design at the top and bottom below the delicate pinchers  and the similar design on the arm holding the close seam cone. A really nice piece in excellent condition.(AKTE)

SAWTOOTH RATCHET CANDLE HOLDER 18TH CENTURY

A very early and well used sawtooth ratchet which permitted  vertical adjustment of the candle. Note the extended ware on the candle holder and the unevenness of the sawtooth. a wonderful example. (AKTE)
