Davenport Jug or Pitcher Ironstone Jardinere Pattern ca:1815

This is an excellent Hydra pitcher made by Davenport Company of Longport Staffordshire, England 1805-1820. It is made of Ironstone Pottery which Davenport called Stone China. Overall a lovely early jug in great condition. An identical Davenport jug is illustrated in Godden's Guide to Ironstone, a reference book by Geoffrey A. Godden, Published by The Antique Collectors Club, page 230, Plate 178. Davenport jugs and pitchers are generally of higher quality than Mason's Ironstone and have heavily gilded detail, with finer hand painting. (BON)
