*DAVISON, SILVER & CO. CRANBURY, NJ- BLACK PEPPER DRUM

A large (17 1/2"H) container which stored black pepper for the DAVISON, SILVERS & CO. of Cranbury, NJ. The company was founded in 1866 and upon the death of John Davison in 1890 the company name was changed to J.S. Silvers & Co. The company dealt in grocery products like tea, coffee, black pepper etc.The container is made from sturdy "hardboard" with wooden bands and has a wooden top and bottom. The label is in excellent condition while the surrounding red paint and the container have some minor loss (see photos) (LTOK)
