*PAIR OF 1820-1840 SCONCES WITH SHIELD BACKPLATE – PUNCHED HEART DECORATION

A magnificent pair of 1820-1840 candle sconces with shield backplate and punched heart decoration. These sconces were part of the Ray and Carrie Ruggles Collection, Fall River,Mass. They are in wonderful condition, have great patina and are great examples of a decorated sconce pair with hearts. Truly, a spectacular pair. The Ruggles
auction was advertised in the 1999 New Town Bee. The sconces are in excellent condition, a bit of wax debris in the drip trays. The
patina is outstanding. There are no structural issues. Each sconce
measures 14 1/2" h x 8” wide. The collectors who purchased and owned these from the Ruggles sale have since passed away and the family has let go of certain pieces. They are an outstanding pair of early 19th, century punched decorated heart sconces. Please note the arm that supports the drip tray to the back is doubly supported by an "S"
shaped support as well, the tabbed candle holders, the punched hanging hole as well as the ribbed edges and interior surface.
