PAIR OF SLIDE CANDLE STICKS, LATE 18th CENTURY

In the book EARLY LIGHTING, which was published by The Rushlight Club, they have a photo of the SLIDE candlestick and the BIRD CAGE candlestick (p.24) Both of them have similar features such as being able to adjust the height of the candle and offer greater protection against fire. The Slide candlesticks that you see looks exactly like the one featured in the book with its turned wooden turned base , carrying handle, two rods, two 1 1/8” wide strips and square drip pan. The Slide candlestick is certainly less common. The candlesticks have probably been together all theirlives. They may be one of a kind,
certainly unique lighting devices. Each light measures 11 inches tall
and the tidy base measures 3 inches in diameter. (OTOK)
