TINDERBOX/ CANDLEHOLDER 1770-1820 KEEP?
The tinderbox is one of the most interesting early lighting devices. This tinderbox is complete with damper, dried grass, striker, flint, candleholder and handle which permits the user to move the lighted candle from room to room. The flint and striker were used to light the grass which then enabled the candle to be lit and placed in the candleholder. The damper was then used to extinguish the grass. (DAAR)
