EARLY 18th CENTURY TINDER BOX

Description

WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN FASCINATED BY TINDER BOXES. WOODEN TINDER BOXES ADD ANOTHER DIMENSION AND WONDER AS TO HOW THEY SURVIVED. THIS ENGLISH OAK TINDER BOX IS CERTAINLY ATTRACTIVE WITH ITS SHAPED CREST AND HEART CUTOUT. THE BOX IS ALSO NICELY MADE UTILIZING SQUARE AND T-NAILS. THE BOX CAN BE HUNG OR BE PLACED ON A TABLE TOP. INSIDE THE SLIDING DOOR ARE TWO COMPARTMENTS. ONE HOLDS THE EQUIPMENT (STRIKER, FLINT AND TOW) TO START THE FIRE AND THE OTHER IS FOR STORAGE (CANDLES, TOW, SPLINTS ETC.). NOTE THE FIRE STARTING COMPARTMENT IS BLACKED DUE TO USE. HOWEVER,THE DAMPER IS A REPLACEMENT (PROBABLY FOR A GOOD REASON). DESPITE A SMALL CRACK AT THE TOP OF THE CREST, THE TINDER BOX IS COMPLETE AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
