FISH WEATHERVANE 1790-1840

Description

This FISH WEATHERVANE 1790-1840 was found in Columbia Pennsylvania. Columbia is in Lancaster County along the Susquehanna River. While the shape/form is nicely done, the vane has a work history and has been exposed to the elements for a very long period of time. As a result, the weathervane has an interesting weathered surface. It appears to have been painted white at one time with some red highlights. Over the years, some of the paint has given way to an interesting reddish, yellow surface. It should be noted that although fish motif vanes abound along the waterfront, the fish has long been considered a good luck symbol and there are many fish vanes on buildings that are far removed from either ocean.
