PAINTED NEW ENGLAND OYSTER FIRKIN ca:1800

Description

A great piece of New England treenware. A fabulous tall, staved bucket. According to the person we purchased it from, there was a label on the inside that read “Found in Harwich, Ma. 19th. century staved, Oyster Firkin/Pail/Bucket. All original to include Blue/Gray paint. Makers mark on bottom “C_ _ AS”.” The paint on this Oyster bucket is wonderful. The form having the two ears gives it great character. The oyster bucket has a good, solid original lid, staves and original steel bands are attached with rose head nails and are nice and tight. The bucket measures 10”H, (10 3/4”H including ears), 9” top diameter, 8 1/4” base diameter. Such an unusual form. American staved bucket. (TOTOKD) List Price: $1150
