SNOWBIRDS 1800s

Description

Cast iron plates of many designs on iron straps are SNOWBIRDS FROM THE 1800s. Anchored by the holes to roof edges under materials such as slate or tile they were meant to retain snow for insulation. Others believed they could prevent any layer of snow from plunging down on the heads of pedestrians. The name occurred because platforms were often shaped like birds or eagles and looking up people mistook them for feathered perchers. Two shapes are available: List Price: Bird $200 (8) List Price: Tree $120 (6)
