Description
This is a most unusual candle box. The candle box is a nice small size measuring 12 3/4”x 3 1/4”x 2 1/4” inches. Small t-nail construction, the swivel lid is pegged and the paint is original ochre and brown grain paint. Note that the candle box has a small slide up door opening to a divided space. One side would hold full length candles (12 3/4”) and the other side is divided into two compartments. One compartment would hold shorter candles and the other compartment under the swivel lid would hold rush or wax wicks for lighting candles. The overall condition is excellent and and a very charming piece. Circa mid to late 19th. century. (TKHDE)
