EARLY 19th CENTURY PAINTED MORTAR/PESTLE

Description

AN OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE OF A PAINTED MORTAR AND PESTLE. WHILE THE ORIGINAL PUTTY PAINT IS STILL STRONG AND ATTRACTIVE THERE ARE PLACES WHERE THE PAINT HAS BEEN WORN DUE TO AGE AND USE WHICH HAS RESULTED IN AN ENHANCEMENT OF THE OVERALL PATINA. AT ONE POINT IN ITS HISTORY, A SMALL SECTION OF THE MORTAR GOT TOO CLOSE TO A FIRE (SEE PHOTO) AND RESULTED IN SOME DISCOLORATION. THE PESTLE STANDS UP PERFECTLY IN THE MORTAR, PLEASE NOTE, THE BOTTOM THIRD OF THE MORTAR HAS A STABLE AGE CRACK. (KDOTKW)HEIGHT: 8”,MORTAR DIA. 5”, PESTAL HEIGHT:10 1/4” LIST PRICE: $885
