SLIDE CANDLESTICK – 18th CENTURY

Description

A relatively rare late 18th century slide (sometimes mistakenly called a birdcage) candlestick with two rods, two flat iron strips, wooden base, a sliding candle socket with friction grips and drip pan. The carrying handle can also be used to hang the candlestick or to hang on a peg or chair. The enclosed candle is a safety feature which prevented the candle from toppling out of the holder and reduced the possibility of a fire. The candlestick is all original with a very old crack in its base that has stabilized. 7 3/4”H, 3 1/2”BASE DIA. (HETED) List Price: $875
