THIS IS THE FIRST STEEL TINDER BOX WITH A HINGED LID OF THIS SIZE THAT WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND. THIS TINDER BOX MEASURES 4 1/4” X 2 3/4”. THIS WAS DESIGNED TO BE CARRIED IN A POUCH ETC. DRUM TINDER BOX
One of our favorite early lighting devices. This is an example of a tin Drum Tinder Box with period striker, flint, and damping disc to extinguish the tinder and keep it dry. POCKET TINDER BOX
A 1750-1800 steel pocket tinderbox with a hinged dome lid and a push button clasp for opening and holding shut. It comes with a nicely designed forged striker and the required flint. The tinderbox is a great example of a skilled craftsman. (BTSE)
